Eco Church

We’re excited to let you know that our church has recently been recognised as an Eco Church, and we’re proud to have earned the Silver Award for making positive steps towards a greener, more sustainable future for our whole village.

This special achievement celebrates the many ways our church is trying to look after God’s creation—from making our buildings more energy efficient, to encouraging wildlife and supporting local eco-friendly projects. It’s something we can all be part of, whether you visit for worship, community events, or simply enjoy the peace of our churchyard.

We believe that everyone has a part to play in making a positive difference. All are welcome to get involved in any aspect of the Eco Church movement, and we warmly encourage ideas, suggestions and input from everyone.

Together, we can continue to make our church and community a greener, more sustainable place for future generations.

If you’d like to know more about what being an Eco Church means for us, and the changes we’re making, you’ll find extra details below. Thank you for supporting our journey!

Despite the main purpose of our churchyard being for burials, our churchyard is a peaceful, wildlife-friendly space that reflects our commitment to the Eco Church ethos. It’s carefully managed to support biodiversity, with areas left wild to encourage pollinators and provide habitats for birds and small animals. Through mindful planting and sustainable maintenance, it serves as both a place of reflection and a living example of caring for God’s creation. We are always looking for volunteers to get involved, share ideas and expertise. We are also looking for donations of relevant conservation materials such as nesting boxes. Managing outdoor spaces for nature involves creating and maintaining environments that support biodiversity and ecological health. This means using sustainable gardening practices, planting native species, and providing habitats for wildlife such as birds, insects, and small mammals. Through thoughtful care and stewardship, we can transform outdoor areas such as our churchyard and gardens into vibrant, living spaces that nurture the natural world.

Reducing carbon footprints means actively lowering the amount of greenhouse gases we produce in our daily lives. This can be achieved by making energy-efficient choices, such as using renewable energy, reducing car travel, and cutting down on unnecessary consumption. Small changes like conserving electricity, choosing sustainable products, and supporting low-carbon initiatives add up to make a significant positive impact on the environment.

Reducing consumption is about making mindful choices to use fewer resources and minimise waste. By focusing on buying only what we truly need, repairing and reusing items, and avoiding single-use products, we can lessen our environmental impact significantly. This approach supports a more sustainable lifestyle that conserves natural resources, reduces pollution, and helps protect the planet for future generations.
